Sir Nicholas organised and rescued from the Nazis some 700 children, mainly Jewish, just prior to World War Two (Kindertransport) and brought them to Britain. This was an extraordinary act of humanity and a life saving journey for those children. A bronze memorial sculpture by Venezuelan artist Flor Kent will be unveiled at Prague Main Train Station in Autumn 2009. Profits of the concert
will go towards the cost of the Memorial.


All families from the rescued children are specially welcome at this concert.

artistes

Anthony Hughes - piano - studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where he gained a First Class Honours Degree among other prestigious awards. He was then a pupil of Ryszard Bakst and later achieve success in Warsaw at the International Chopin Competition and recorded for Polish National Radio. Between his many concert engagements he studies with Peter Feuchtwanger and works as assistant at his masterclasses.

Maya Momcilovic Jordan - piano - has a Masters Degree from the Music Academy of Belgrade, where shewas born, and a Postgraduate Certificate from the London College of Music. A winner of numerous prizes shehas performed throughout the former Yugoslavia, Italy, Cyprus, France and the UK. Maya has been involved in various charity projects helping Serbian people and children and bringing music and artists of different countries together.

Viv McLean - piano - studied at the Royal Academy of Music and in 2002 won First Prize at the Maria Canals International Piano competition in Barcelona. As well as giving many solo recitals worldwide he has also been soloist in major concertos with the Philharmonia, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and other well known orchestras.

In addition he performs chamber music with the Ysaye Quartet and The Leopold String Trio. He has
recorded regularly for BBC Radio 3.

Anya McQueen - violin - was born in London in 1999. She began her musical training at the Da Capo Music Centre where she took up violin age 5. Now a pupil of Rosendale Primary School she studies with Caroline Davis and recently passed her grade 3 examination with distinction. Also she has played with the Dulwich Youth Orchestra.


Silva Vuckovic-McQueen - soprano - studied singing at the Belgrade Music Academy with Aleksandra
Ivanovic. She joined the Radio and Television of Serbia Choir of Belgrade and completed a year’s course for opera singers at the National Theatre there. She was awarded a scholarship at the Trinity College of Music where she studied with Wendy Eathorne and subsequently gained a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. She has sung in opera throughout Europe and has also given solo recitals in many London venues.


Sophia McQueen - cello - born in London, started learning cello age 6 and recently she passed her grade 1 on cello and piano with distinction. She will accompany her sister in the performance.
Olga Palij - piano - was born in Ukraine and started her musical education aged 5, graduating from the Kiev National Academy of Music and gained a Masters Degree with honours there. Supported by the Yamaha Foundation and the Leverhulme Trust, Olga completed her postgraduate studies with distinction at the Royal Northern College of Music with Norma Fisher, with whom she is going to start in the Masters Programme in September 2009.

Susan Porrett - actress - has been a member of the companies of the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court . Her most recent appearance on the London stage was at the Young Vic last year.

Adi Tal - cello - was born in Israel and gained her first music degree from the Clevelend Institute of Music. She is now completing postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with Ralph Kirshbaum. She has also taken lessons from Steven Isserlis, Natalia Gutman, Itzak Perlman and has appeared as soloist with the major Israeli Orchestras. In 2008 she won the Muriel Taylor Cello Prize. Adi has played in many venues in the UK and participated in a number of important Festivals.
There will be an Interval Reception when there will be a toast to Sir Nicholas Winton,
who hopes to be present, and refreshments and wine will be served.
