Odchodząc na jeden wieczór od stałego jazzowego repertuaru, Jazz Cafe POSK prezentuje interesujący hip-hopowy zespół Urban Foxes. Trzej młodzi członkowie zespołu z powodzeniem łączą hip-hop, reggae i rock tworząc trzyjęzyczną muzykę, w której język polski, francuski i angielski przeplata się z polityczną, rymowaną konwersacją, będącą odbiciem życia w wielokulturowej metropolii londyńskiej. www.myspace.com/urbanfoxesmusic

Sobota 8.05 20.30pm £5 – Kwartet Tommaso Starace

Włoski jazz ma silną pozycję w świecie. Krytycy podkreślają kreatywność,energię, wyobraźnię i brawurę muzyczną  jazzmanów z południa Europy. Kwartet Tommaso Starace jest znakomitym przykładem grupy, która łączy to co w jazzie najważniejsze: doskonałą technikę wykonawczą i umiejętność improwizowania, przy okazji oddając na scenie atmosferę włoskiej ulicy, gdzie mieszają się dźwięki muzyki, pokrzykiwania, klaksony samochodów i włoskie belcanto. Saksofonista Tommaso przyjeżdża do Jazz Cafe prosto z Mediolanu, gdzie prezentował w legendarnym klubie Blue Note przy kompletach publiczności swoją najnowszą płytę “Nie zapomnij”. Wraz z nim wystąpią Michele Di Toro – fortepian, Attilio Zanchi – kontrabas i Tommy Bradascio - perkusja.

Kolejna cykliczna Fiesta kubańska połączona z nauką tańca salsy, która od kilku lat robi oszałamiająca karierę na parkietach całego świata. Lekcje tańca poprowadzi kubańska tancerka Damarys Farres z The Cuban School of Arts. Wiele niespodzianek, dużo tańca i zabawy!     

Sobota  15.05  g.20.30 £5 - Richard Turner Round Trip

24 letni trębacz Richard Turner zaliczany jest do największych nadziei brytyjskiego jazzu ostatnich lat. Będąc przede wszystkim muzykiem jazzowym znakomicie porusza się wśród innych gatunków muzycznych prezentując na przykład recitale na trąbkę i organy w dużych katedrach angielskich jak również nagrywając dla radia i telewizji BBC. Jego najnowszy zespół „Round Trip” gra improwizowany jazz najwyższego kalibru, czerpiąc wzorce z muzyki klasycznej. Richard jest nie tylko znakomitym muzykiem ale i świetnym pedago-giem. Wielu jego studentów zdobyło miejsca w czołowych uczelniach muzycznych jak  Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music, Trinity College of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music, universytety w Cambridge i Oxfordzie. Piątek 21.05 g.20.30 £5 „ Jazzove rendez vous”.

Jednym z założeń programowych Jazz Cafe POSK jest prezentacja nowych talentów jazzowych. Tym razem zaprosiliśmy dwa zespoły z Wydziału Muzycznego Thames Valley University w Londynie: The Pennington and Veasey Quartet i The Excentric Trio. Muzycy z kwartetu Pennington i Veasey grają zarówno standarty jazzowe jak i muzykę typu fusion wzorowaną na takich kompozytorach jak Chick Corea czy Hiromi. The Excentric Trio powstało w 2009 roku z inicjatywy polskiej pianistki Uli Szczepanek.  W repertuarze grupy znajdują się zarówno jazzowe kompozycje z XXI wieku, jak i utwory własne, nawiązujące do stylistyki klasycznej przeplatanej z reggae, fusion, muzyką latynowską  aż po free jazz.Każdy członek grupy pochodzi z innego regionu świata. Ta mieszanka kultur: latynoska krew i słowiańska dusza stworzyły niecodzienne brzmienie, które już dziś jest rozpoznawane na scenach londyńskich klubów. www.myspace.com/eteccentrictrio

Sobota  22.05  g.20.30 £5 - Seb Pipe Life Experience

Utalentowany saksofonista altowy Sebastian Pipe zgromadził wokół siebie muzyków, których misją jest kreowanie improwizowanej muzyki bedącej odbiciem ich personalnej osobowości w oparciu o kultury muzyczne Bałkanów, Kuby, Indii i zachodniej muzyki klasycznej. Rezultatem jest niezwykle bogata stylistycznie muzyka jazzowa, w której przeplatają sie liryczna melodie ze zdecydowanymi rytmami, wzbogacona o bardzo dojrzałe improwizacje poszczególnych muzyków zespołu.

Piątek 28.05. g.20.30 £5 – Big Band Willie Garnetta

Niewątpliwie jeden z najlepszych londyńskich big bandów, kierowany przez weterana jazzowego, saksofonistę Willi Garneta, którego kariera muzyczna trwa już ponad 50 lat. W Jazz Cafe POSK występuje w każdy ostatni piątek miesiąca, prezentując brawurowo wykonany program znanych standartów jazzowych.

Sobota 29.05 g.20.30 £5 - Kwartet Aureliusza Sciuki

Litewski pianista Aureliusz Sciuka, absolwent Litewskiej Akademii Muzycznej przed przyjazdem do Londynu w 2006 roku, pracował  jako kompozytor i muzyk na Litwie i w krajach  Środkowego Wschodu. W Anglii Aureliusz założył własny kwartet, który wrócił właśnie z festiwalu w Birstonas na Litwie, gdzie prezentował zarówno własne kompozycje jak również popularne standarty jazzowe. Jazz Cafe goes hip hop for one night only, presenting three young musicians who fuse hip hop with reggae, trip hop and rock to create a fresh tri-lingual sound. Sat. 8.05 8.30pm £5 - Tommaso Starace Quartet

Following a sold out performance at the Blue Note Milano in January, Tommaso Starace returns to Jazz Cafe POSK promoting his newly released CD ' Don't Forget' recorded in Italy with his new Italian quartet featuring: Tommaso Starace - alto and soprano saxophones, Michele Di Toro – piano, Attilio Zanchi – bass, Tommy Bradascio- drums.

Tommaso has recorded four CD's as a band leader. His repertoire ranges from his own compositions to modern interpretations of standards. His aim through composition is to write tunes with a strong melodic component exploring traditional and more contemporary harmony and always maintaining the sense of swing and groove. Not surprisingly some of Tommaso's influences are Cannonball Adderley, Clifford Brown, Joshua Redman, Brandford Marsalis, Maurice Ravel. But his passion for black and white photography, painting and cinema are also a continuous inspiration to his writing and music. The recording 'Tommaso Starace Quartet - Don't Forget' is the result of a one year collaboration with the band. Performances took place in various jazz clubs and festivals in North Italy. Across the months each band member wrote new material to include in the concerts and the CD; the end result is a recording that already has a distinctive sound emphasized by swing, groove, and lyrical tunes. The band's repertoire stretches from rearranged and less known standards to original compositions in odd time signatures to arrangements of compositions by living composers and musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Ennio Morricone.

Tommaso says about his music: ''As a composer I have always made a point of exploring and pushing the boundaries of my own writing, trying to create different moods within my pieces by combining traditional and more contemporary harmony and focusing on a strong use of melody and groove with the additional use of odd time signatures. To me a composition is powerful and magic when it sets immediately a mood, takes the audience on a journey creating vivid images in their minds: that's when I personally get moved the most and the music stays with me for a long time and this is the goal I strive to achieve each time I start a project and complete a recording.'

Friday 14.05 8.00pm £8 Salsa con Wódka
The next edition of our regular Cuban Fiesta. An excellent opportunity to learn one of the most popular Latin dances, which in recent years has swept the dance floors in clubs all over the world. The Cuban dancer Damarys Farres from The Cuban School of Arts will be on hand to show you some basic steps and ensure that you are well prepared to dance the night away to the music of the live Cuban band.                              

Saturday 15.05 8.30pm £5 – Richard Turner Round Trip

24 year old, Richard Turner is one of a new crop of creative and imaginative young musicians on the British scene. His ability to move fluently between many styles of music has seen him appear with such artists as Gary Husband, Mike Gibbs, Steve Swallow and Bill Frisell, give recitals for trumpet and organ at major cathedrals such as York Minster and perform on live broadcasts for BBC television and radio.
Richard's influences include such eminent jazz musicians as Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, and Lennie Tristano as well as classical composers J S Bach, Shostakovich, Debussy and Stravinsky.                                                                                                         

Albeit principally a jazz musician, Richard's original project, Round Trip described recently by the Vortex's Chris Parker as "a skilful and refreshingly original-sounding band" use his classically influenced compositions as vehicles for exploratory improvisation.
Parallel to his own projects Richard currently plays and tours with drummer Gary Husband in Husband's new quartet 'Drive' alongside saxophonist Julian Siegel and bassist Michael Janisch. The groups debut album Hotwired released in January 2009 and their three night residency at Ronnie Scott's club in early February 2009 was met with rave reviews.

While pursuing a busy freelance schedule throughout the UK and Europe Richard is also in growing demand as an educator. Many of his students have been awarded places at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music, Trinity College of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music, Cambridge University and Oxford University.

Friday 21.05 8.30pm £5 „A jazz rendez vous”.

As part of our continued effort to promote young Polish and international jazz talents, we present two bands from the Department of Music at the Thames Valley University in London: The Pennington and Veasey Quartet and The Excentric Trio. The Pennington Quartet plays mainly world fusion music influenced by Chick Corea and Hiromi and some jazz standards by Billy Evans. The Excentric Trio was formed by Polish pianist Ula Szczepanek in 2009 and their repertoire covers a wide spectrum of jazz genres: classical, fusion, reggae, Latin and free jazz. They are all from different parts of the world, so their music is a mixture of different musical tastes. Their Latin and Slavonic background has contributed to creating an original sound and the band is already getting invitations from a number of London jazz clubs. www.myspace.com/eteccentrictrio

Saturday 22.05 8.30pm £5 Seb Pipe’s Life Experience

Talented altoist, Pipe has brought together forward-thinking musicians that share a desire to create improvised music with its own identity, music which reflects the group’s personalities and interests, as well as the world around them.
Life Experience’s music draws its inspiration from Romania, Cuba, India and Western Classical music and is forged from lyrical melodies, tight grooves and bold improvisations.

Fr.28.05. 8.30pm £5 - Willie Garnett Big Band   

The band now have a residency at Jazz Cafe POSK playing every last Friday of the month. Undoubtedly one of the best British big bands, led by veteran saxophonist Willie, featuring top London players including Alex Garnett, Mike Costers, Chris Lowe, John McNichol and a vocalist Lesley Christiane.

Sat. 29.05 8.30pm £5 - Aurelijus Sciuka Quartet

Aurelijus Sciuka was born in Lithuania and has been based in London since 2006. He started playing piano and keyboards aged 5 years. After graduating from the Lithuanian Academy of Music, he has worked as a professional composer and musician in Lithuania, Europe and the Middle East. The band has just returned from a successful tour in Lithuania where they played at the Birstonas Jazz Festival 2010. Their sets include original compositions and also some standard jazz tunes, with strong grooves and influences of funk & blues music.
