Stephen Gately, the Boyzone singer, has died at the age of just 33, while on holiday with his partner Andrew in Mallorca.

The pop star and actor was holidaying on the Spanish island when he died yesterday, the group's official website confirmed.

The cause of his death is unclear but a close friend said he died after a night out.

His last message on the social networking site Twitter, posted on 6 October, said: "Still busy – lots going on. Focusing on finishing my book next so may be quiet here."
