trusting a Polish builder is better? A British thug who pretended to fix a Polish veteran's leaking roof but helped himself to his wallet, was imprisoned this week. Heroin addit and thief Stephen Gillespie was jailed for 3 years at Oxford Crown Court after being found guilty of theft but not robbery. There was an act of heroism in here too. The 101-year-old Kazimierz Michalski from whom Gillespie tried to steal managed to lock the thief in a bear hug for several minutes and only let go after the 47-year old turned red and gasped for breath. Michalski, a pensioner who fought in World War Two and survived the Russian Gulags, prevented the £300 cash leaving his wallet. After the sentence, Michalski said: "He is a pickpocket and a weakling".
