A Polish community group and Islamic and Indian counterparts in Belfast have met with police to seek safety assurances and demanded the intervention of members of the Stormont parliament following a communique that the groups allege they received from an ultra-right wing Loyalist protestant group in Northern Ireland called Combat 18.
Combat 18, or "C18" is described by Wikipedia as "the armed wing of the racist British neo-Nazi organisation Blood & Honour. Combat 18's involvement has been suspected in numerous deaths of immigrants...The "18" in its name is commonly used by neo-Nazi groups, and is derived from the initials of Adolf Hitler; A and H are the first and eighth letters of the Latin alphabet."
The communique declares "Northern Ireland is only for White British." and that if Poles and others do not leave "Other than your building will be blown up".
Maciej Bator, Chairman of the Polish Association in Northern Ireland (PANI), said he was in receipt of that communique: "We organised a meeting with the different organisations that received the threatening letter, as well as with the police. During the meeting the police assured us that they will do their best in order to improve our and Polish people’s safety.
"The PANI has sent a letter to Northern Island Assembly Members and to the First Minister requesting their intervention into this matter.
"The PANI does not intend to make any press statement. Although the matter has now been reported in the media, we received the threatening letters over a week ago. We will try to work with trade unions and the political parties in order to get rid of the stereotypes about immigrants," said Bator.
