His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited the Polish cultural centre POSK in Hammersmith, London on Wednesday - the first such visit. Around 500 people turned out to greet the future monarch and his wife as they overstayed in their visit by 20 minutes, and stayed for around 1 hour 30 minutes. Prince Charles and Camilla were first greeted by the Polish Ambassador Barbara Tuge-Erecinska and former Polish President-in-exile Ryszard Kaczarowski before visiting the Gallery where Radio ORLA regular Wiktor Moszczynski showed them a Solidarity trade union's 30th anniversary exhibition. Charles and Camilla then visited the theatre, where 12-year old Karol Rybarczyk played three pieces of music for Chopin Year and a Polish performance of "The Children's Parliament" followed. In the crowd were Irena Anders, widow of General Wladyslaw Anders, and other VIPs. Numbers allowed to attend the event had to be restricted. Later, the royal couple were shown a Battle of Britain 1940 display by Polish children from Chiswick School and sampled Polish cooking in the restaurant. Several years ago Princess Alexandra visited POSK for a luncheon. In a few weeks' time the royal couple will visit several central European countries, including Poland. More photos follow:
